Alex So, we learned that the bus drivers receive around 60k euro a day for their impeccable service. Their 4-day coup costed us millions in lost production. And if that was not enough, now we learn that many buisnesses will be suing the federation, and guess who from where will the money come from??? But they did that for their families livelihood, right? What about the rest of us who really work our ass of and give our share for the devlopment of the economy??? It is always us suffering whether it is transport, shipyards, dockyards, or any other loss-making entity...

Lawrence Zahra The maltese public transport has been a law unto itself for far to long. It's about time they are sorted once and for all.

"This week Maghtab, the infamous mountain of debris, was on fire again and the residents of Naxxar, San Gwann and Madliena were allowed a night-long aroma of burning waste." Il-Maghtab m'ghadux iwarrad?????

Ray Azzopardi Saviour, as usual you push an anti workers rights agenda and criticise what the middle class doesn't like as "mintoffian" or "troglodyte". Wasn't it mintoffian of you to criticise the endorsement by foreigner Shultz of Joe Muscat? Answers please!

Andre Genovese Saviour, thanks as always for your national contribution. Someday people will appreciate your actions and courage. Unfortunately it is too early for that. The Government has made a fatal mistake by filling the Hearses Association’s pockets with the EUR 230,000 stolen from our tax money. That sum, divided by the 11 operators adds up to roughly EUR 21,000 per hearse owner. This has set a very dangerous precedent that will leave the transport minister with no option but to pay the over 400 mini bus drivers the same amount per head, i.e. 8.4 million euro. Same goes for the taxi drivers. Nice one Austin…everyone would have been capable of coming up with that solution. People have already started applauding you, but alas, they have failed to grasp your genius. Petty politics for a petty nation…

Carina Dimech I do hope Dr. Gatt will go down in history as he is the only one who can rid us of such scum. I have been stuck at the airport for the past 2 days and have witnessed first hand all the damage they are doing, it makes me shy to say i am Maltese like them. Strike as much as you will (if you must) but violence cannot be tolerated. Saviour please don't forget the residents of Maghtab who over and above the stench have to stand the continous speeding trucks overloaded with anything under the sun that danger the roads from 4am everyday!! Thanks to Mayor of Naxxar who NEVER wanted to do anything about them.

A J Muscat I cannot say that I am too pleased with the outcome of this charade. The hearses have come out looking like nothing but cold hearted opportunists. I cannot believe that these people can ever look at themselves in the mirror, or go to Church for that matter, after having had the gall to let the families of a number of fellow Christians suffer the humiliation of not being able to go ahead with the last show of respect. And for what? As usual - money!!! That seems to be the only thing that these, and their fellow neanderthals in the transport sector, care about. I am ashamed to belong to the same nation as these pathetic excuses for human beings...

Lucy I often wonder, while driving through the eternal stench that Maghtab is... who are the politicians kidding? I'd never go to a park built on toxic waste (believe me the smell is toxic, i can only wonder what lies beneath). The sea is polluted, the air is polluted, i'm sure it's not healthy... I wish to die everytime I pass from near Maghtab...

M.Busuttil I know that probably no taxi or mini/bus driver is going to read this, but I am still giving my humble contribution!! We are in our fourth day of roads free from excessive fumes, cowboy attitutes and general disregard for passengers and motorists. Having said all this, do these strikers really think that we sympathize with them with such actions?

George Micallef Well said and well conceived. I agree with what is being said here. At least we have MaltaToday as the last beacon of freedom of speech. Thank-you Saviour!

martin portelli One concludes, cultural diversity aside that the Latin culture isn't one that sits easy on your stomach. Which culture would you have short tempered Maltese journalists adopt? I'd assume you'd sanitise any latin imperfection first would you ? How come you're investing so much faith in Austin GAtt's ability to solve the problem . The island's been at a standstill for 3 days already!!! No ammount of christian or pagan intervention seems to have worked either. Nice summer diversion me thinks!
