Fáilte, welcome, whoever and wherever you are, to the website of our environmental group.

We hope and expect that this site will be visited by people (a) in the district of Macroom, Co. Cork, and (b) interested in the wellbeing of our environment and the creatures that we most need to protect, our own species.

It is very likely that the only way that we can ensure the long-term survival and progression of humankind on this Earth is by being wise and considerate about our effects on the environment.

On a personal note, I would also suggest that it is most moral to take care that our actions should be such as to generate least harm and most benefit to all of the other species that are also fortunate enough to share this thing called Life with us - this means that we must not remove habitats, poison land, air or water, or generally act as if our sometimes petty motives (at least mine are) are the only things that matter.

You will find out about our group through reading about us and hopefully taking part in some of our ectivities, or introducing the rest of us to some new activities. You\'ll find that we\'re friendly and people-centred, genuinely interested in and active for the protection and enhancement of the natural and manmade environment.

We welcome interaction with schools and community groups, and of course any individual people.

We are entirely voluntary, run on a minimal budget, with open-agenda, informal monthly meetings. So come along if you wish, to Penn\'s Bar Macroom at 8pm on the first Wednesday of every month except January, and see if you find that there\'s something there for you.

Le meas ort agus ar ár timpeallacht,

Donal O\' Leary

Acting Cathaoirleach

Macroom Distict Environmental Group
