Gulf Coast residents are under mandatory evacuation orders. People will be coming in from all the Southern regions to North and Central areas into the Natchitoches area for shelter. The following information is for people of the area. Additional news and information will be provided on this page during the emergency. Check here for updated information from the office of the Sheriff and Homeland Security.

The emergency evacuation shelter in Northwestern State University Health and Human Performance Building is now open but can take no more evacuees now. The shelter being run by the American Red Cross is on Tarlton Drive, which is the first campus entrance on University Parkway as you enter Natchitoches from I-49.
The facility is a general population shelter. Evacuees with medical needs will be sent to shelters in Alexandria or Bossier City. Those needing to be housed in a special needs shelter should first call (800) 841-5778 for Alexandria or (800) 841-5776 for Bossier City to be certified by a nurse.
Individuals seeking general population shelter information should call 2-1-1. They can also stop at shelter information points along the evacuation routes where they can receive reservations at shelters before locations reach capacity. These information points are located in the following areas:
