                                                         by Alan Ashkinazy

#1- GREENSBORO BATTING CENTER 13U- This team won the 2002 AAU National Championship in Sarasota, Fla. There were 61 Teams from all over the country and the final four teams were GBC 13U 8-0, Miami, Fla. 8-0, Puerto Rico 8-0 and defending champion, St. Petersberg, Fla. 8-0. After beating Puerto Rico in the semis, we beat St. Pete in the finals. Players on this team included, Clint Moore (Army), Ben Bunting (UNC), CJ Beatty (Stl. Cardinals), and Scott Riddle (Elon).

#2- 1994 APWU Greensboro Palomino League- Won the 1994 Palomino World Series in Greensboro, NC. Beat East Cobb 11-1 and then St. Louis in the Championship 7-1. Players include Clay Hooper (UNC/NY Yankees), Michael Horney (UNC), Jamie Hammond (Maryland), Stan Chadgie (Furman), Michael Holmes (WF/Orioles).

#3- Greensboro Batting Center 14U- 4th place finish at AAU National Championship in Sarasota, Fla. Probably a better TEAM then 2002 team but luck just ran out.

Love the list. I think 1995 APWU was better than 1994 but was less disciplined. I can't believe it has been that long. Thanks again for having such a good influence on me and so many other players. I still remember both Championships fondly- great moments in my life. I still remember catching the final out of the 94 Championship- it was a popup by our dugout fence and as I went to catch it, all the guys were pouring out of the dugout to the point I was afraid I was going to drop it! \r

Good Words. I don't live in Greensboro, so I don't know what is going on. I am impressed with the emphasis you place on getting a degree!
I represent AllOverTheTriad.com and I would really like to see the Greensboro Batting Center on our Site. On our site there is a provision for video's - I can just see a video with the ball coming straight at the batter - or a short training video of hitting. I live in Spartanburg, SC now but I picked up a little bit on what has been going on.\r
\r
I will say that as a former player in my experience you have always been a class act, you have always played the game the way it was supposed to be played, and you always played to win within the rules. You also instilled these values in your players. You have a great thing going at the batting center, and I think to some extent there are individuals who will always be jealous of your success, on and off the field. I remember when GBC first started, and I am amazed at how much it has grown and how far it has come. That is a credit to you and the way you conduct yourself.\r
\r
You were a great influence on me, and I am proud to say I played for you. When I look back on my career, I count you at the top of a very short list of coaches for whom I have great respect, who cared about me as a person and a player.\r
\r
So here is a shout out for you, and I hope you don't let this situation change you or get you down. Thanks for helping mold me as a person and a player.\r
